Silydianin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of silymarin. Silymarin has inhibitory effects against a number of enzymes, including phospholipase A2, cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, and proteases. The mechanism by which silydianin exerts its inhibitory properties is not fully understood but may involve the regulation of cell signaling pathways and mitochondrial membrane potential. This compound also has anti-inflammatory activity in vitro and has been shown to be effective against chronic viral hepatitis in vitro and in experimental models. Silydianin also inhibits the growth of Candida glabrata cells at concentrations as low as 10 μM.
