Tetradecyl pyridinium chloride is a cationic surfactant that is used in toothpaste, mouthwash and other oral hygiene products. Tetradecyl pyridinium chloride is an antimicrobial agent which can be found in cosmetics, household cleaning products, and various other personal care items. It is effective against bacterial strains such as Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus by disrupting the cell membrane. Tetradecyl pyridinium chloride has also been shown to be active against fungi such as Candida albicans, but not against viruses or parasites.
