Description:Specific inhibitor of the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier complexes MPC1 and MPC2. The compound blocks the pyruvate transport across the inner mitochondrial membrane and therefore reduces pyruvate influx into the gluconeogenesis. It supresses glucose production in hepatocytes and was proposed for the control of hyperglycaemia in diabetic patients. Also used for the sensitisation of cancer cell lines to chemotherapy.
