The 1-Allyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide belongs to the class of ionic liquids. It is a colorless liquid that has an unpleasant, garlic-like odor. The intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions in this molecule determines its phase transition temperature, which is -12°C. This compound is soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform and ethanol, but insoluble in water. 1-Allyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide can be used as solvent for cellulose or collagen and has good transport properties.
