Product Information
Heparin cofactor II is a glycosaminoglycan that is an important inhibitor of blood clotting. It binds to heparin-binding sites on antithrombin, which prevents the activation of clotting factors and the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. Heparin cofactor II can be obtained from human plasma by ion-exchange chromatography and purified by column chromatographic techniques. It has been shown that this molecule is not bound to any other proteins in plasma, unlike heparin, which is bound to albumin and lipoprotein fractions.
