Apalutamide is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen that binds to the androgen receptor in prostate cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of human prostate cancer cell lines and tumor xenografts in nude mice. Apalutamide is a potent inhibitor of protein interactions with the androgen receptor, which may be due to its ability to compete with testosterone for binding sites. It also has an activating effect on the androgen receptor, leading to increased transcription of genes regulated by this receptor.
