Description:AZD 5582 is a small molecule that inhibits the protein MCL-1, which is a key regulator of apoptosis. Inhibiting MCL-1 leads to increased levels of the apoptosis protein BAX and decreased levels of the apoptosis inhibitor Bcl-2. This leads to cell death via caspase-independent pathways, such as mitochondrial dysfunction or necrosis. AZD 5582 has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in autoimmune diseases, such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. The drug has been shown to be effective against solid tumours in animal models.
