Oltipraz metabolite M2 is a redox potential that has been shown to have anti-infectious properties in vitro. It has also been shown to have potential for the treatment of autoimmune diseases as well as other conditions including cancer. Oltipraz metabolite M2 prevents the replication of viruses and inhibits the growth of bacteria by oxidizing cell membrane lipids, which causes them to lose their redox potentials. This inhibition prevents viral life and bacterial growth, leading to apoptosis.
