Benzoic acid 5-amino-1-(4-methoxy-benzenesulfonyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl ester is an uncharged, water soluble, and lipophilic benzoic acid derivative. It is a prodrug that is metabolized in vivo to the active form, benzoate. Benzoic acid 5-amino-1-(4-methoxy-benzenesulfonyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl ester inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV and preventing the duplication of genetic material. This process prevents transcription, translation, and replication. The drug also has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomal RNA.
