AP C5 is a regulatory protein that inhibits the activity of many proteases. It is a member of the serpin family and is encoded by the SERPINA5 gene. AP C5 has been shown to have inhibitory properties against a wide range of proteases, including tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA), thrombin, trypsin, and elastase. This protein also showed transcriptional regulation and was found to be protective against inflammation in humans. A predictive model for AP C5 levels has been developed from data on serum levels, which may help with clinical development for these diseases.
