Lefamulin is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacterial growth and replication by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites, which are excreted by the kidneys. Lefamulin has a low solubility in water and is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The drug is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and soft tissues. Lefamulin is also used for treating patients with congestive heart failure who have impaired renal function or hepatic impairment. Lefamulin may interact with other drugs such as amiodarone, warfarin, or cimetidine, so it should only be taken under medical supervision.
