It is synthesized by the transfer of a 6-hydroxyl group from 6,6'-dideoxyadenosine to the C6 hydroxyl group of 3,6'-dihexadecylthio adenosine. 4,4'-Difluoro D-mannose is then obtained by hydrolysis and decarboxylation.
