Gypenoside XVII is a bacterial strain that can be used to study the effects of autophagy. The bacterium has been shown to have ginsenoside glycosidase activity and is inhibited by the matrix effect. Gypenoside XVII also affects locomotor activity and mitochondrial functions in mice. In addition, this bacterium has been shown to cause an atherosclerotic lesion in mice. Gypenoside XVII is able to bind to Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and activate the response element NF-κB, which may lead to an inflammatory response. This bacterial strain can also be used as a marker for analytical detection of ginsenosides.
