SSR 240612 is a novel drug that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel disease and solid tumours. It is an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase, which is involved in the synthesis of long-chain fatty acids. SSR 240612 also inhibits acetylcholine release by binding to muscarinic receptors, leading to its anti-inflammatory effect. SSR 240612 may also have anticancer activity because it inhibits histone deacetylases and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of malignant brain cells.
