Product Information
Carbetamide is a diphenyl ether with antimicrobial activity. It is used in the treatment of bacterial infections, such as Salmonella and Escherichia coli. Carbetamide has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to fatty acids, which are a major component of cell membranes. The kinetic data show that this binding inhibits the metabolism of carbetamide through hydroxylation and hydrolysis, which leads to its accumulation in mitochondria where it inhibits cytochrome P450 enzymes. Carbetamide also inhibits bacterial lipid biosynthesis by inhibiting enzymes involved in the production of fatty acids.
