Description:BGP-15 is a mitochondria-targeted pharmacological agent that has been shown to improve cardiac function and reduce oxidative stress. BGP-15 is a peptide with reactive properties, which inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increases mitochondrial membrane potential. These effects are mediated by activation of the cytochrome c oxidase pathway in the mitochondria, leading to increased energy metabolism and ATP production. BGP-15 has also been shown to reduce cardiomyocyte apoptosis and inhibit myocardial hypertrophy in vivo. The therapeutic potential of BGP-15 has been demonstrated in various models, including murine hepatoma cells, where it promotes caspase-independent cell death (apoptosis). This drug may have beneficial effects against infectious diseases such as tuberculosis or malaria, as well as autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
