It also binds to the beta subunit of methyltransferase and blocks the synthesis of methionine, which is an essential amino acid in bacteria. Thieno[2,3-b]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid can also bind to fatty acids in the bacterial cell membrane and disrupt its function.
