2-(3,4-Dihydroxybenzoyl)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-iodo-5-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enenitrile is a high purity ion channel inhibitor with IC50 of 1.8 nM. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of voltage gated sodium channels in rat hippocampal neurons and human erythrocytes. The binding affinity of 2-(3,4-dihydroxybenzoyl)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-iodo-5 methoxyphenyl)prop-2 enenitrile for the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), as determined by competitive radioligand binding assay, is 21 pM. This compound also inhibits the activity of potassium channels and has been shown to bind to peptides and antibodies.
