- 4'-Aminophenyl 4-Aminobenzoate (Apab)
4-Aminophenyl 4-aminobenzoate (4APBA) is a monomer that is used in the production of polymers. It is prepared by reduction of 4-nitrobenzophenone with hydrogen chloride and anisotropic, monotropic, or crystalline catalysts. 4APBA can be reduced to 4-aminobenzoic acid at temperatures between 60°C and 140°C. The amine group can be easily removed with amines such as ethylamine, diethylamine, or triethylamine. Crystallization of the polymer using a solvent such as acetone yields a product with a yellow color.
