Neopatulin is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the bacterial efflux pump, which is responsible for the extrusion of toxic substances from bacterial cells. It also has antibacterial properties against Gram-positive bacteria and tumor treatment effects. Neopatulin is synthesized from L-tyrosine through a biosynthetic pathway involving several enzymes, including an oxygenase and a dehydrogenase. The biosynthesis of neopatulin proceeds with the formation of a hydroxyl group as well as a hydrogen bond. Neopatulin is used in vitro assays to study biological properties and chromatography techniques for detection methods.
