Product Information
Zataroside B is a natural product that has been demonstrated to be an antiplasmodial agent. It is active against both the erythrocytic and exoerythrocytic forms of plasmodium, including resistant strains. The mechanism of action is not clear, but it may inhibit the growth of the parasite by interfering with the synthesis of pyrimidine nucleotides or by altering the permeability of membranes. Zataroside B has also been shown to inhibit tumor cell proliferation in culture and to have anticancer activity in animal models. This compound has been shown to bind stereospecifically to monkey kidney cells and fibroblasts, which are common models for studying drug effects on mammalian cells. It also inhibits DNA synthesis in these cells.
