Description:

E6446 is a dihydrochloride salt that inhibits the proteolytic activity of cathepsin B, an enzyme that may play a role in the degradation of extracellular matrix and other proteins. E6446 has been shown to inhibit the expression of inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor alpha. This drug also has antiviral properties because it can inhibit the release of virus from infected cells by blocking activation of toll-like receptor 4. It has been shown to be effective against viruses such as influenza A virus and herpes simplex virus type 2. E6446 has been found to be safe for use in human clinical trials with no significant side effects reported.
