Linerixibat is a drug that has been shown to reduce the accumulation of fat in the liver by inhibiting the synthesis and secretion of bile acids. Linerixibat also inhibits glucose transport, leading to a reduction in plasma glucose levels. It is also used as a pharmacological agent for the treatment of cholestatic liver diseases. In vitro assays have been performed on human hepatocytes to investigate Linerixibat's biological properties and its effects on multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP2). These assays show that Linerixibat increases MRP2 expression, which leads to increased serum levels of drugs such as cyclosporin A.
