Alvameline is a cholinergic drug that is used to treat urinary and fecal incontinence in humans. It has been shown to act as an acetylcholine receptor agonist at the muscarinic subtype, which stimulates detrusor muscle contraction. Alvameline also inhibits the metabolic breakdown of amyloid protein, leading to reduced accumulation of this substance in the brain, which is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. This drug can also be used for treating other diseases, such as fatty acid oxidation disorders and metabolic disorders.
