Description:

FPL-64176 is a selective inhibitor of voltage-dependent calcium channels, which are channels that are activated by changes in membrane potential. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of calcium channel activity in vitro and is thought to act through a dual mechanism that includes inhibition of the ryanodine receptor and prevention of voltage-gated calcium channel activation. FPL-64176 has also been shown to inhibit proliferation of pluripotent cells, such as human embryonic stem cells, when treated with pharmacological agents that cause increases in intracellular calcium levels. This drug may have beneficial effects on diseases such as cardiac hypertrophy or fibrosis.
