3-(6-(Dimethylamino)-4-methylpyridin-3-yl)-2,5-dimethyl-N,N-dipropylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-7-amine hydrochloride is a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme protein kinase C (PKC) that regulates cellular functions such as proliferation and differentiation. This compound has been shown to inhibit the development of hyperplasia in rats. 3-(6-(Dimethylamino)-4-methylpyridin-3-yl)-2,5-dimethylpyrazolo[1,5a]pyrimidine also inhibits PKC in human embryonic kidney cells. This inhibition prevents the differentiation of these cells into renal tubules by preventing the phosphorylation of proteins involved in this process.
