Product Information
ALS-8112 is a novel antiviral drug that is being developed for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus. The drug has been shown to inhibit syncytial viral infection in primary cells and also inhibits the production of hepatitis B surface antigen. ALS-8112 is an analog of a natural product, L-leucine. The compound inhibits the replication of viruses by binding to their surface glycoproteins, preventing them from attaching to host cells. Molecular modeling studies indicate that ALS-8112 binds to the receptor binding domain of HIV's glycoprotein gp120 and prevents it from interacting with CD4 receptors on host cells.
