PZ-2891 is a fatty acid that has been shown to be effective against the Zika virus in mice. PZ-2891 is a monoglyceride that can replace the long-chain fatty acids found in cell membranes, which are necessary for mosquito reproduction. PZ-2891 has been shown to reduce the number of mosquitoes and decrease the symptoms of disease in knockout mice. This drug may provide a novel therapy for neurologic disorders as well as other diseases that are caused by an infectious agent or genetic mutation.
