LIT-001 is a new drug in development for the treatment of pain. LIT-001 is a synthetic agonist of the oxytocin receptor and has been shown to reduce inflammatory pain in animals with no adverse effects on cognition or motor function. This drug has been shown to bind selectively to the oxytocin receptor, with high affinity and selectivity. It also does not interact with other receptors that are important for pain, such as the NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor, which is activated by glutamate and mediates neuronal excitability. LIT-001 may be useful in treating patients who have chronic pain and have failed other treatments, including those who suffer from opioid addiction.
