Famciclovir-d4 is a synthetic, high-purity antiviral and antifungal agent. It is used to treat infections caused by certain viruses such as herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella zoster virus (VZV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Famciclovir-d4 inhibits viral replication in the host cell by interfering with DNA synthesis. The drug binds to the enzyme RNA polymerase, which is vital for the production of viral RNA. This inhibition prevents transcription of viral genes and thus prevents the production of new viruses.
