Product Information
RK-33 is a novel drug that belongs to the class of purine nucleoside phosphonates. It has been shown to inhibit glutamate-induced cell death in vitro and in vivo. RK-33 has also been shown to have potent anti-tumor effects against squamous carcinoma cells and radiation-induced tumors. RK-33 inhibits bacterial growth and replication by binding to the enzyme polymerase, preventing transcription and replication of DNA. This compound also inhibits HIV infection of T cells, but not macrophages or dendritic cells, suggesting that it may be a potential treatment for AIDS. RK-33 is metabolized by esterases in tissues such as the liver and kidney, which leads to its elimination half-life being short (approximately 8 hours).
