Product Information
SKA-121 is a fatty acid that has been shown to have anti-cancer activity in patch-clamp experiments. It binds to the membrane of cancer cells and hyperpolarizes them, thereby preventing the cells from communicating with other cells. SKA-121 also has an effect on metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, by binding to the calcium receptors on the surface of pancreatic beta-cells and activating them. This leads to increased insulin secretion, which lowers blood glucose levels. SKA-121 also inhibits microglia activation through its ability to bind to calcium channels. SKA-121 is not selective for any particular ion channel or receptor; it binds non-selectively to any cation channel or receptor that has a hydrogen bond near the phenyl ring of the molecule. The mechanism by which SKA-121 activates cardiac muscle cells may be due to its ability to bind calmodulin.
