Massoniresinol is a flavonoid that is found in the roots of various plants, including poria and atractylodes. It has been shown that Massoniresinol can bind to adenosine receptors and inhibit the release of hormones. This activity may be due to its similarity to steroidal hormones. Massoniresinol has also been shown to increase the production of progesterone in humans. Massoniresinol is metabolized through a number of chemical reactions, including hydroxylation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, oxidation by CYP19, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. The pharmacokinetic properties of Massoniresinol have been studied in humans using pharmacokinetic monitoring and showed that it takes about 10 hours for this compound to reach maximum concentration.
