Product Information
Carbidopa ethyl ester hydrochloride is a prodrug that is rapidly converted to its active form, carbidopa, by decarboxylation in the body. It is used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders. Carbidopa ethyl ester hydrochloride acts as a metal chelator and inhibits decarboxylase, which converts L-dopa to dopamine. This prevents the formation of dopamine from L-dopa, which would normally be broken down into dopamine by dopa-decarboxylase. The drug also has a cavity for injection devices and can be injected intramuscularly or intravenously. Carbidopa ethyl ester hydrochloride is available as a pharmaceutical product in solid form and should not be administered orally.
