U-69593 is a kappa opioid agonist that binds to receptors to produce effects such as analgesia and sedation. It also has been shown to produce locomotor depression in experimental models. U-69593 has been shown to inhibit the activity of δ opioid receptors, which may be due to its ability to block the binding of glutamate or cocaine. This drug also inhibits the production of dopamine by binding to the dopamine transporter, resulting in decreased dopaminergic neurotransmission. U-69593 has been shown to have a high affinity for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and can inhibit DNA synthesis.
