(-)-Ibuprofenamide is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase, which are enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins. (-)-Ibuprofenamide has been shown to reduce the growth rates and redox potentials in activated sludge, thereby reducing the production of organic matter. (-)-Ibuprofenamide has also been shown to inhibit the uptake of caffeine by root tissues. This compound does not bind to or disrupt bacterial dna gyrase or dna topoisomerase, unlike other inhibitors such as triclosan.
