Description:

SR11237 is a natural compound that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of fatty acid synthase. SR11237 blocks the synthesis of fatty acids in a cell-free assay by binding to the active site of the enzyme and preventing access of acetyl-CoA, an essential substrate for fatty acid synthesis. It also inhibits lipid accumulation in hepatocyte-like cells, which may be due to inhibition of fatty acid synthase activity. SR11237 has also been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vivo by blocking receptor binding and inhibiting the metabolic pathway for retinol (vitamin A) synthesis. SR11237 has been shown to induce mitochondrial membrane potential and activate response elements in vitro, suggesting that this compound may have therapeutic potential for treating cancer and other metabolic disorders.
