CCT018159 is a bromoenol lactone that inhibits the function of HSP90, a protein chaperone. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells in culture, as well as other cancers. CCT018159 inhibits the methylation of proteins and DNA, which may have effects on cell division and growth. CCT018159 also binds to cell factors such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), inhibiting its function and causing cancer cells to die. CCT018159 has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties in mice with pulmonary metastases from an adenocarcinoma of unknown primary site. This drug was also found to be safe for use in human patients with advanced solid tumours.
