AC 186 is a coordination complex that contains the anticancer drug taxol. It has been shown to be neuroprotective in an animal model of Parkinson's disease, and has been evaluated for potential use as a chronic treatment for prostate cancer. AC 186 selectively binds to the cell surface receptor subtype that is overexpressed in prostate cancer cells, and is highly active against these cells. AC 186 also has diagnostic properties because it can be detected by positron emission tomography (PET) imaging techniques.
