ML385 is a small molecule that has been shown to be effective in a number of experimental models of oxidative injury and inflammation. It inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), by binding to the response element on their gene promoters. ML385 also inhibits the activation of nuclear factor κB (NFκB) and reduces neuronal death through inhibition of caspase 3 activity. This drug has been shown to be active against hyperproliferative diseases, such as gliomas, pancreatic cancers, and squamous cell carcinoma. The mechanism of action for this drug is unknown but may involve DNA binding activity and protein kinase activities.
