Product Information

Name:
Velagliflozin
Description:

Velagliflozin is a transport inhibitor that inhibits the sodium-dependent glucose transporter 1 (SGLT1). This drug increases the excretion of glucose in the urine and reduces blood glucose levels. It can be used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients with chronic kidney disease. Velagliflozin has been shown to have a long-term efficacy and to improve insulin sensitivity, which may be due to its effect on fatty acids. Velagliflozin also has a cardioprotective effect, reducing cardiac hypertrophy, cardiac fibrosis and improving heart function. The mechanism of this effect is not fully understood but it is thought that it may be due to an inhibition of pergolide mesylate, one of its metabolites.
