Product Information
P-Nitroblebbistatin is a potent allosteric inhibitor of the cation channel that is responsible for maintaining the membrane potential in neurons. It inhibits the activity of this channel, which leads to depolarization and reduced release of neurotransmitters. P-Nitroblebbistatin also has inhibitory properties on regulatory pathways involved in axonal growth and cardiac function. This molecule is an artificial compound that was created to act as a competitive antagonist of p-nitrobenzaldehyde O-methyltransferase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the methylation of p-nitrobenzaldehyde to form p-nitrobenzyl alcohol. P-Nitroblebbistatin binds to the active site of this enzyme and prevents it from catalyzing this reaction, leading to inhibition of the synthesis of molecules that are important for heart function.
