KY-226 is a selective inhibitor of the enzyme protein kinase C (PKC) that has been shown to be neuroprotective in animal models. It is able to inhibit PKC-mediated phosphorylation of tau and ameliorate the effects of tau on neuronal death. KY-226 also has anti-cancer activity, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis by enhancing the expression of FOXO1, an upstream regulator of p53. This drug can reduce muscle atrophy by inhibiting myostatin production and enhancing the expression of occludin.
