Product Information

Name:
YM 230888
Description:

YM 230888, also known as 3-[[(2S)-2-amino-3-[4-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-6-yl)phenoxy]propyl]sulfanyl]-N-(3,5-dimethylphenyl)propanamide, is a potent and selective allosteric modulator of metabotropic glutamate receptors. It has been shown to enhance the activity of glutamate in the extracellular space by binding to an allosteric site on the receptor. YM 230888 has neuroprotective properties that can be attributed to its ability to inhibit excessive Ca2+ influx into cells and protect against excitotoxicity. This drug has been shown to have beneficial effects in knockout mice with granule cell loss and in cerebellar granule cells in culture. YM 230888 is not active against estrogens or thp-1 cells and does not bind to the estrogen receptor.
