Beraprost sodium is a drug that belongs to the class of angiotensin system inhibitors. It binds to the angiotensin receptors in vascular smooth muscle cells, thereby blocking the production of substances that cause vasoconstriction. Beraprost sodium has been shown to reduce blood pressure and improve cardiac function following myocardial infarction in experimental models. It has also been shown to have a hypoglycemic effect and reduce liver fat accumulation in obese rats. Beraprost sodium may be used for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension, hepatic steatosis, diabetic neuropathy, and obesity-related complications.
