Dicarboxylates are a class of organic compounds that have two carboxyl groups. These molecules are found in many living things and play an important role in metabolism. Dicarboxylates can be classified as low potency or high potency, depending on their ability to inhibit the enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK). Low-potency dicarboxylates have been shown to inhibit PDK, which is involved in cancer growth. They also inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and prevent blood vessel formation. High-potency dicarboxylates have been shown to inhibit PDK and induce apoptosis in cancer cells.
