GSK2033 is a novel small molecule that inhibits the ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) which is a membrane protein found in the liver, intestine, and other tissues. GSK2033 has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of fatty acids and proteins by inhibiting ABCA1. It also acts as an efflux pump inhibitor by inhibiting cholesterol transport from cells. GSK2033 has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in animal models and cell culture experiments by reducing levels of oxysterols.
