Deoxylimonin is a reaction product of limonin and deoxylimonin. It inhibits tumor growth by binding to the receptor cells in the cancer cell membrane, which triggers the apoptosis pathway. Deoxylimonin has been shown to have potent anticancer activity against human liver cancer cells. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and RNA by blocking bacterial enzymes such as deoxyribonucleases and ribonucleases. Etoac extract, an extract from c. aurantium, has also been shown to have anticancer activity that is inhibited by deoxylimonin.
