Desacetyloxyethyl (E)-cefuroxime axetil is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of cephalosporins. It has a molecular weight of 456.5 and is soluble in ethanol, acetone, and chloroform. Desacetyloxyethyl (E)-cefuroxime axetil can be used for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive bacteria, such as streptococcal pharyngitis and streptococcal skin infections. This drug inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with the synthesis of cell wall mucopeptide precursors and inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall.
