Description:
XE 991 dihydrochloride (XE 991) is a non-selective cation channel blocker that inhibits calcium ion influx into cells. It has been shown in vitro to inhibit the release of dopamine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). XE 991 also reduces neuronal excitability and enhances neuronal function in experimental models, including an infant model. The drug is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
